Public warned to get outdoor cover before bonfire night

AA Home Insurance has warned homeowners in the UK to invest in cover for their garden property before bonfire night.

The warning has come after research by the company revealed that around one in five homeowners have no idea whether the contents of their gardens, including sheds and greenhouses, are covered under their existing policies.

It has also been estimated that around £780 million-worth of garden property, trees and shrubbery could suffer damage from stray fireworks and poorly protected bonfires over the period up to and including November 5th.

Discussing the research, AA Home Insurance's head Janet Pell said: "The garden is an increasingly central part of our living space, all year round, yet we have a worryingly cavalier attitude towards insuring the property outside our homes.

"Every year Guy Fawkes celebrations wreak havoc in gardens across the country, so we need to make sure we've protected our outdoor property."

AA, which has been offering financial support in the UK since 1960, offers services including insurance for cars, travel and homes. ADNFCR-1054-ID-18330169-ADNFCR
